Your Choices in Acne Treatments

acne treatment minneapolis

Acne is a painful, embarrassing condition that can strike at any age. Now, there are effective treatments for acne that move beyond topical solutions to treat the condition at its source. Whether you are in the midst of acne breakouts or wanting to get rid of the residual scarring acne often leaves behind, we have the treatments that can help you achieve smoother, clearer skin.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are exfoliating treatments that use a chemical solution to remove outer layers of skin cells to reveal softer, smoother skin underneath. There are different formulations of chemical peels that allow us to tailor your procedure to the severity of your condition and the specific results you want to achieve. At Sapphire Advanced Aesthetics, we offer two chemical peels to our acne patients:

Vitalize Peel

The Vitalize Peel falls between the superficial and medium depths on the spectrum. This peel formulation contains salicylic acid, lactic acid, resorcinol and retinol to remove outer skin cells and stimulate cell renewal. The peel is appropriate for any skin type and will brighten the complexion in addition to clearing acne breakouts and minimizing the appearance of acne scarring. A series of treatments is often recommended to achieve the best possible results.

Rejuvenize Peel

This peel penetrates the skin more deeply to produce more dramatic results. It is often recommended for moderate to severe skin conditions, with most patients achieving significant results after just one treatment session. Some patients will opt for a series of treatments to achieve the best possible results, however. The Rejuvenate Peel contains similar ingredients to the Vitalize Peel, but in higher concentrations.

Laser Peel

The MicroLaser Peel is another good option for treating both acne and acne scarring. This peel uses laser energy to exfoliate the skin, removing outer layers and stimulating cell renewal for a fresher complexion. The MicroLaser Peel is particularly good for eliminating skin redness and inflammation, a common complaint from acne sufferers. The superficial peel does not require any type of anesthesia and patients are usually able to return to regular activities as soon as their procedure is over.

Other Laser Treatments

For patients concerned about significant acne scarring, Profractional Laser treatments may be the right choice. This procedure uses laser energy to produce micro-injuries in the skin, triggering the body’s own healing response. As new cells are generated and collagen is produced by the body, the skin becomes noticeably smoother and more youthful. Shallow scarring, as well as fine lines and facial wrinkles will also be visibly reduced after this treatment. Most patients will see full results after a single treatment session.

When Two are Better than One

While some patients will need just one type of procedure to meet their cosmetic goals, others may find a combination of these treatments or additional procedures will provide them with better results. Dr. Smith is experienced in treating all types of acne conditions and will work with you to find the best procedure or combination of procedures for your specific needs.
