Dr. Leslie Smith DO is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in cosmetic surgery and is a soft tissue specialist with over 28 years of experience. She enjoys the opportunity to share her expertise and provide care to the people in Plymouth, Wayzata and Minnetonka areas of Minnesota (just outside of Minneapolis). At Sapphire Advanced Aesthetics, she offers a wide spectrum of body contouring and skin tightening treatments, strategies on facial rejuvenation and even hair rejuvenation from minimally invasive to non-invasive options.

Dr. Smith is dedicated to helping patients feel confident and secure by combining state-of-the-art technology with a comprehensive, health-focused philosophy. She is also mindful of each patient’s full medical history, including conditions like thyroid disorders, diabetes, and insulin resistance, to ensure the safest and most effective outcomes. The Path to Sapphire Advanced Aesthetics
Dr. Smith’s lifelong passion for medicine began at the age of five when she converted her room into a hospital ward. This early ambition led her on a remarkable journey:
Volunteer Service
Started as a candy striper in an emergency room.
Military Service
Served as a major and surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at Brooke Army Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Her three years of active duty service included deployments as a flight surgeon and performing burn and trauma reconstruction.
Post-Military Career
Became the Assistant Director of the Level 1 Trauma and Burn Center at Hennepin County Medical Center and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Wound Care Expertise
Also served as the Director of the Wound Care Center at Mayo Health Systems in Albert Lea, Minnesota, further developing her soft tissue specialization.
Transition to Cosmetic Medicine
After completing continuing medical education at the University of Florida in 2010, Dr. Smith shifted her focus to cosmetic surgery. She founded Sapphire Advanced Aesthetics, named for the precision of the sapphire stone (erbium) used in the founding laser.
An Expert in the Field
Education
A graduate of New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her surgical residency at Michigan State/ Bi County Community Hospital in Warren, MI. She received Board certification as a surgeon and a fellow of surgery from the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.
Certifications
Holds a fellowship and is a board-certified surgeon from the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery. She was also certified by the American Society of Cosmetic Physicians in 2010.

Giving Back
Continues to give back by donating her time to provide healthcare in underserved, rural communities. Served on the medical board for residents finalizing their board certifications for 3 years. Trained medical students, physician assistants, and surgical residents about trauma, ICU, and burn care for 8 years.
Awards of Recognition of Service
Dr. Smith was recognized with an Army Achievement Medal for her service in Honduras as a medical ambassador. She also was recognized as a flight surgeon and received an achievement medal for her service in regard to bringing back injured soldiers of various branches of the armed services from abroad and from other states that did not have the expertise or resources.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys cooking with fresh ingredients like herbs from her garden and trying new foods, whether it’s Italian, French, Mediterranea, American or getting back to her roots with Greek cuisines. She also loves working out at the gym and participating in outdoor sports like trap and skeet shooting. If she’s not cooking or working out, you can probably find Dr. Smith out boating on the river.
