Hair Restoration for MenWayzata, MN

Thinning hair and hair loss in men can often be successfully treated with a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure.  Dr. Leslie Smith uses an advanced Selphyl® and Fibrin matrix to stop hair loss and boost the new growth of dense, natural-looking hair.

How does Selphyl work?

Selphyl uses the powerful growth factors in your own blood to stimulate hair growth in thinning areas. It achieves this by extracting blood from your body, purifying it in a centrifuge and then reinjecting it into the targeted area.

The purification process separates the healing and growth factors from the rest of the blood. This substance is referred to as PRFM, and is considered to be the highest concentration of beneficial growth factors achievable for hair restoration treatment.

When PRFM is injected into thinning areas of the scalp, it encourages the follicles to grow thicker and more dense than before.

Signs of Hair Loss in Men

There are a range of reasons for male hair loss and thinning hair in men, the most common being Androgenic Alopecia or male pattern baldness. This genetic condition can begin as early as the teen years or early 20’s for some patients and early intervention can reduce the impact on the hairline and overall hair density. Recognizing the common signs of male pattern baldness can help men seek treatment early and help maintain a fuller head of hair.

Common signs of hair loss in men include

  • Receding hairline
  • Thinning at the crown or back of the head
  • Curly hair growing near the ears and nape of the neck

If you notice changes in the thickness or texture of your hair or any of the above-mentioned signs of androgenic alopecia, schedule a consultation with Dr. Smith in our Minneapolis office to evaluate the condition of your hair and discuss the need for treatment.

Why is my hair thinning?

Genetics, hormones, medical conditions, medications, radiation, supplements, environmental factors, stress — the list of factors that contribute to your hair loss can go on for pages. But there is one factor that stands far above all the rest: your age.

The typical person loses between 50 and 100 hairs in a single day. That might sound like a lot, but a healthy scalp is more than capable of making up the difference with new hair growth. The problem is that as you get older, your body’s ability to produce new hair declines, and you are left with thinning locks.

Hair Restoration FAQ

How many treatments are needed?

When are results noticeable?

Patients will begin to see results in 4-6 weeks and will continue to experience hair growth and thickening for the next several months. View results in our before and after gallery.

Am I a candidate for hair restoration using Selphyl?

Dr. Smith will meet with you to evaluate the condition of your hair and determine if this type of treatment will meet your needs. Patients who are already bald are not considered good candidates for this type of treatment. Those with moderately thinning hair or early changes in the hairline will typically experience the best results.

This minimally invasive treatment uses a patient’s own blood which minimizes risks and side effects.

Is Selphyl hair restoration painful?

Most patients report little to no discomfort during their treatment and return to their normal daily routine immediately afterward.
